love Jerry and love he's gone ( > jam preferably). It's in my vaunted top 10 dead tunes. Great, soulful lyrics and a great jamming vehicle...

There is a nice He's Gone> Jam thread here

http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=221305

I like to keep an eye out for the longer versions (14+ minutes) as this usually means a nice extended mellow jam. 9/26/72 at the Stanley Theater is very nice. There are some great versions from the 90's as well. Hornsby added a lot to the song in '91.

Posted on Good Friday... At least Jerry wasn't crucified, ( except by some critics )...
I miss Garcia every day, it is seriously hard for me not to tear up, if I try to explain what that man's music meat to me . Non Deadheads have just no idea .
And I love the song, though mostly in the "one drummer" era , and the instrumental jam's it could create .

This is such a good song.

I always felt the lyrics sounded like they were being sung by a child in a schoolyard - there's a lilt and an emptyheadedness to the rhythm that always brought a nagging schoolboy or schoolgirl to my mind.

Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile, nothing left to do but smile smile smile!
